
UP Cabinet gives nod to 594-km Ganga Expressway construction

Under CM Yogi Adityanath’s chairmanship, the state Cabinet gave its nod to the Request for Proposal and Request for Quotation of four packages of the project which will pave the way for the construction of the six-lane expressway.
On Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet gave its nod to the construction of the Rs 36,230-crore, 594-km Ganga Expressway, arguably the longest road link in the country.Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s chairmanship, the state Cabinet gave its nod to the Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Quotation (RFQ) of four packages of the project which will pave the way for the construction of the six-lane expressway.The UP CM directed all relevant departments, including UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), to work in 'mission mode to execute the project between Meerut and Prayagraj covering the districts of Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj along the river Ganga.ALSO READ: Despite govt spending thousands of crore rupees, Ganga river turns from bad to worse Government spokesperson and Cabinet Minister Siddharth Nath Singh said that the Ganga Expressway was approved on November 26, 2020.With its completion, economic activities in Uttar Pradesh will increase manifold. For this project, Rs 19,754 crore has been provisioned for the civil work, while Rs 9,255 crore is earmarked for land purchase. More than 92 percent of the land has been acquired."Ganga Expressway will be of six lanes and it can be increased to eight lanes in the future. A 30-year agreement has been signed for this project to be built on the PPP model. The speed of the vehicles has been fixed at 120 kmph.
