A reality check was conducted by India Today on the Rs 1,200 sent by the government to bank accounts of parents of children attending council schools in Barabanki, Gorakhpur, Gonda and Bhadohi.
As the primary schools in Uttar Pradesh began in full swing, but in this academic session, most of the students were found to be not wearing uniforms and sweaters amid the winter season. This time, the government has increased the amount for stationery to Rs100 as well, but more than 50 percent of the students are still waiting for the amount to be transferred.
The amount was sent by the basic education department through the DBT (direct benefit transfer) to the account of the parents of the students, but a lot of irregularities have been seen on the ground. The reason for this is being told by the parents that the government is providing them with less money. Similarly, the amount has still not reached the parents' account.
A reality check was conducted by India Today on the Rs 1,200 sent by the government to bank accounts of parents of children attending council schools in Barabanki, Gorakhpur, Gonda and Bhadohi.
At Primary School, Sandhauli, Barabanki, more than 50 percent of the students were not wearing uniforms and shoes. The amount of DBT has not yet reached the bank accounts of the Guardian of such children.
In such a situation, most children are forced to go to school without a uniform. At the same time, most of the children present in the classroom were seen without uniforms and some of them were using their old uniform as they had not received the amount through DBT.
At the same time, there were also many cases where the transaction was done on the teacher's app but the amount is not reflected in the accounts of parents.
Till 2020, children were given two sets of uniforms in the month of July and one sweater till October by the school. Last year, the department changed the system and has implemented the system of sending Rs 1200 per child directly to the parent's account. With this amount, the parent must buy two sets of uniform, a sweater, shoe, stocking, and school bag and stationary for the child.
