UP ATS summons Gorakhnath temple attacker's father; friend arrested from Saharanpur

UP ATS has summoned the father of Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi, the man who attacked security personnel outside Gorakhpur's Gorakhnath temple on April 3.
Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has summoned the father of Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi, the IIT graduate who attacked security personnel deployed outside Gorakhpur's Gorakhnath temple earlier this month.
As per officials, a notice has been issued to Abbasi's father, asking him to join the probe against his son. Investigators are likely to question the father about claims regarding Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi's mental health.
A team of the UP ATS also arrested Abdul Rahman, a friend of Abbasi, from Saharanpur on Thursday. Rahman is being questioned in connection with the case.

Officials familiar with the case said the two spoke on the day of the incident.
Abdul Rahman reportedly operates a small mobile phone store in Saharanpur and was part of the same "module" as Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi.
During his interrogation, Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi told officials that his hatred spawned from alleged atrocities committed against Muslims. He also mentioned outrage against the CAA and NRC in his confession statement.
