UP: Astronomical labs in govt schools fascinate both young and old
India Today
The UP government’s initiative of setting up astronomical towers in government schools has piqued the interest of both young and old.
The astronomical laboratories established in a district of Uttar Pradesh have now become the centre of attention as both children and adults flock to these laboratories to learn about planets, stars, and other astronomical aspects. Drawing inspiration from the National Education Policy 2020, astronomical laboratories have been set up in 109 primary and upper primary schools in the district, as told by Chief Development Officer(CDO) Abhishek Pandey.
Chief Development Officer Abhishek Pandey further told that these laboratories have been set up with the objective of developing scientific temper among students while also identifying those students with a scientific aptitude.
A primary school teacher currently serving at the astronomical laboratory at Sikanderabad development reported that the number of students enrolled had also increased after the labs were set up.
He went on to say, “Apart from children, villagers are also invited to these labs. We give information about the weight of planets and other aspects of astronomy.”
“In fact, enrolment of children in schools has increased due to these laboratories,” he added.
At these centres, a student who attends the astronomical laboratory at a Bilsuri primary school claimed he learned about the earth and its revolution around the sun, the solar system, and the lunar eclipse.
He further said that he gets to look through a telescope at the moon and sky at these laboratories.
