
Undertrial prisoner in Gurdaspur grenade case escapes police custody, flees mental hospital

An accused, arrested in the Gurdaspur grenade case, tricked Punjab Police and escaped a mental hospital.
Amounting to a dramatic turn of events in Punjab, an accused in the Gurdaspur grenade case escaped from the psychiatric hospital by tricking the police force present on the site. Identified as Joban Masih, the accused was arrested over the seizure of a grenade from his possession in 2022.
In a twist and turn of events, an arrested Masih escaped, tricking the security forces who were guarding the area. It has been said that he executed his narrow escape from the hospital's ward.
Sources confirmed that Amritsar Police immediately blocked the area and a search operation had been initiated. However, the accused could not be apprehended. Subsequently, Majitha Road Police Station has registered another case against Ashish Joban Masih, who is a resident of Gurdaspur Tibri Cantt.
The CCTV in the vicinity was scrutinised and optimum efforts were made to nab the perpetrator.
The incident took place after Ashish was admitted to Dr Vidyasagar Mental Health Care on the evening of August 29 due to a deteriorating mental condition.
Sources said that Joban Masih has been named in nearly a dozen criminal cases pertaining to robbery, loot and theft.
