'Unacceptable': TDP leader Nara Lokesh condemns Assam CM's remarks on Rahul Gandhi

TDP leader Nara Lokesh condemned Assam CM Himanta Sarma's jibe at Rahul Gandhi at a poll rally earlier this week. The Assam CM had attacked Gandhi for seeking proof of the 2016 surgical strike and said, "Has BJP ever asked for proof that he's Rajiv Gandhi's son?"
Nara Lokesh, national general secretary of the Telugu Desam Party and son of part chief Chandrababu Naidu, came out in support of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made disparaging statements about him at a rally in poll-bound Uttarakhand on Friday.
MLC Nara Lokesh tweeted to say that while political debate on contentious issues is crucial, the language used and statements made must never "cross the boundary of decency". Further, he said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's attack on Rahul Gandhi was "not in good taste".
"Of late, the kind of language heard from politicians is becoming increasingly derogatory. Disagreements may not always be nuanced but, they must never cross the boundary of decency. The personal attack on Rahul Gandhi by the Chief Minister of Assam was not in good taste," he wrote.
Politics is about political ideologies - ideas, beliefs, values, and opinions. Political disagreements have occurred since time immemorial. In a democracy, political debate on contentious issues is crucial as it helps build public consensus.(1/5)
Further, Nara Lokesh compared the incident to his own experience when his mother was allegedly 'abused' on the floor of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly in November last year.
