UN World Food Programme (WFP) country director Bishow Parajuli on Saturday met Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his official residence and complimented the state government on its efforts to reduce poverty and its disaster management capabilities.

During the 25th foundation day celebrations of the ruling BJD party on December last year, Odisha CM and BJD supremo had asserted that the aim of his government is to reduce poverty in Odisha by 10 per cent over the next five years and his government is working towards this goal.
"We have brought down the poverty level from 63 per cent to 29 per cent. Over 80 lakh people have been elevated from below poverty line," Pattnaik had said.
Talking to India Today, WFP Director Bishow Parajuli said the Odisha government's efforts in reducing poverty is commendable, with various programs so that no one is left behind.
He also praised the state government’s steps for controlling child malnutrition in the state. Further, he announced that the World Food Programme would work in coordination with the Odisha government to ensure that nutritious food reaches the children and sustainable livelihoods lead to improved household food and nutritional security and ultimately result in holistic empowerment of women.
Showing great reverence for state disaster management capabilities which focused on zero casualties, Parajuli said they will further work on resilience building and ensuring livelihood support to the people.
