Russia's invasion of Ukraine has set off the largest mass migration in Europe in decades, with more than 1.5 million people having crossed from Ukraine into neighbouring countries. These Ukrainian refugees are taking shelter in camps located near the border areas. Amid all the grim news arriving from Ukraine, there’s this video that has emerged on social media which will leave a smile on your face.
NBC News reporter Ellison Barber was filming a segment about life in refugee camps when she was interrupted by a Ukrainian girl playing with a soccer ball.
Barber is currently in Poland and reporting about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In her segment, Sunday Focus, she shared the plight of 1.5 million people who fled Ukraine, leaving behind their houses and near and dear ones, to neighbouring countries like Poland, Hungary, and Romania.
“We’ve spoken to some people here today who told us they left now because they were trying to really wait until the very last minute. But then, as they talked to their family members, friends outside of Ukraine, they convinced them to take their children and come somewhere safe to Poland until they can go back,” Barber said while reporting from one of the refugee camps.
While she was reporting, she was interrupted by this gleeful child who had stayed put in the refugee camp. The child held a soccer ball and flashed a million-dollar smile at the journalist.
“The best interruption of a live shot I’ve ever had on (sic),” Ellison Barber wrote sharing the video.
