UGC releases names of 21 fake universities, Delhi has maximum

UGC has released a list of 21 fake universities that are functioning in India right now. As per the list, Delhi has 8, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 4.
The University Grants Commission, UGC, has recently released a notice listing 21 “self-styled, unrecognized institutions” which are functioning in contravention of the UGC Act, that have been declared as fake universities and are not empowered to confer any degree.
UGC took to its official Twitter handle to release the notice. The notice states, 'Students and Public at large are hereby informed that presently following 21 self-styled, unrecognized institutions which are functioning in contravention of the UGC Act, have been declared as fake universities and these are not empowered to confer any degree.'

As per the list, Delhi has the maximum number of fake universities, 8. Followed by Uttar Pradesh with 4. West Bengal and Odisha have 2 each, and Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh have 1.
According to the UGC Act, the right to confer or grant degrees shall be exercised only by a University established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act or an institution deemed to be a University under Section 3 or an institution specially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer or grant degrees.
