UGC decision to recognise degrees lauded by International Sports University

The decision by the UGC to recognise degrees has been applauded by the International Sports University, Maharashtra (ISUM).
The decision by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to include Bachelor's and Master's in Sports Science and Sports Management as recognised degree options has been welcomed by the The International Sports University, Maharashtra (ISUM). The International Sports University was established last year with the backing of the government of Maharashtra.
The UGC decision was also hailed by the Maharashtra Sports Minister Sunil Kedar on Saturday, who said that he was looking forward to a substantial leap in building talent, jobs and sports IP for the long term development of the Indian sports industry through professional education.
"We have had a singular vision to re-imagine and transform sports education in the country with the objective of creating skilled professionals well versed in the science and management of emerging sporting disciplines," said the sports minister in a media statement.
Adding further, he said, "With the International Sports University, our goal is to revolutionize sports education by incorporating different aspects of technology, management, sports governance, to produce sports professionals of the future who can advance India's prowess in sports."
The Maharashtra Sports Commissioner Om Prakash Bakoria termed it as a momentous development for the sports ecosystem in India.
He further said that ISUM was one of the few universities in the country to offer future-ready courses in sports science and management.
A key consultant to the government on this project and former Indian cricketer Nilesh Kulkarni stated that the UGC has taken note of the work being done by the Maharashtra government in rejuvenating sports education in India through this notification.
