Udhagamandalam experiences freezing temperatures, creating picturesque ground frost but posing challenges for farmers and agricultural workers.
Udhagamandalam town witnessed one of the coldest nights this winter season on Sunday night (January 5, 2025) as temperatures across the Upper Nilgiris almost reached freezing point.
According to sources, Udhagamandalam recorded a minimum of 2 degrees Celsius, while Avalanche recorded -1 degrees Celsius on early Monday morning (January 6, 2025.) Many parts of Udhagamandalam and surrounding areas, including the Ooty Race Course, Khandal, Thalakundah, among others, became covered by a layer of ground frost owing to the low temperatures.
Tourist visitors who extended their stay past the weekend were treated to sights of ground frost in various parts of the town. However, the low winter temperatures proved to be a bane for agricultural workers and farmers, who faced difficulties with ensuring the survival of their crops as well as being able to safely work in the fields.
