Udaipur Tense After Tailor Kanhaiya Lal Murdered For Social Media Posts

The murder of a tailor in broad daylight has pushed Rajasthan's Udaipur on edge. With a video of the murder being widely circulated on social media, shops have been shut, the police are on alert and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has appealed for peace. Searches are on for the alleged attackers, who apparently claimed to have committed the crime on the video.
Calling the situation "painful" and "shameful", Mr Gehlot said an atmosphere of "animosity" has been created.
"Strict action will be taken against all the criminals involved in this incident and the police will get to the bottom of it. I appeal to all parties to maintain peace," Mr Gehlot said.
"I appeal to everyone not to spoil the atmosphere by sharing the video of this incident. By sharing the video, the criminal's purpose of spreading hatred in the society will be successful," Mr Gehlot added.
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, which includes the Shinde Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP, is en route to a thumping win in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election, thanks to its two smaller allies.
The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader said the results are not acceptable to his party and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition.
The Adani Group said that none of its 11 public companies are implicated or accused of any wrongdoing.
The MVA had only been given a (very) slim chance of upsetting the in-power BJP-led alliance's applecart in this election; only one of 11 exit polls studied by NDTV believed it can win.
