Two more COVID-related deaths reported by Waterloo region public health on Friday

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported two more COVID-related deaths on Friday.
Between January 1 and 31, the region saw 42 people die either directly from the virus, or as a contributing cause, said medical officer of health, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang at a media briefing on Friday.
"Sadly we have seen an increase in COVID-19-related deaths in January, and expect the trend to continue into February," said Wang.
The ages of people who have died ranged from someone in their 50s, to someone over 100 years old, said Wang, but the median age is 88, and elderly people have made up the vast majority of deaths in January.
The number of people hospitalized with the virus dropped by eight on Friday. There are now 98 people in Waterloo region hospitals with COVID-19, 22 of whom are in the ICU.
