Two Michaels land in Canada after more than 1,000 days of detention in China

After spending nearly three years in a Chinese prison, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor have finally landed in Canada

The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that a Canadian Air Forces passenger plane carrying the two Michaels had landed in Calgary early Saturday morning.

The two Canadians had been charged with espionage not long after Canadian authorities responding to an extradition request from the U.S. arrested Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou in Vancouver in December.

Meng had been released on Friday after a deal with U.S. prosecutors. The same day, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that the two Michaels were on a flight back to Canada.
