The Forest Department arrested two men who were accused of harassing two lions by chasing them down a road while driving a van. The entire incident was caught on camera.
A video showing two men harassing two lions in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar has gone viral. In the video, the two men can be seen chasing the lions while driving in a van. The lions kept running till the end of the road while the two enjoyed themselves.
After the video went viral, the Forest Department of the Shetrunji division took strict action and arrested the two accused. Identified as Mansukh Baraiya and Vinod Baraiya, the accused are residents of Khadkala village of Amreli district.
The harassment of lions is a criminal offence under the Wildlife Protection Act. According to official state data from 2020, the population of lions was 674, with Gir National Park being the only home for Asiatic Lions in the world.
