Two workers died and three were injured after a cave-in at an illegal construction site in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur city. The Municipal Commissioner has alleged that the builder colluded with corrupt municipal officers and began construction without permission.
At least two construction workers were killed and three others were injured in an accident at Amravati Road in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur city on Wednesday, March 16. The casualties were a result of the earth caving in during excavation work at a construction site.
Reacting to the accident, Guntur Municipal Commissioner, Nishant Kumar, revealed that the construction of the seven-storey building was happening without permission. It is alleged that the builder colluded with corrupt municipal officers and was constructing the building without permission.
The injured were shifted to the New Government General Hospital, where the condition of one of them is said to be critical.
The deceased workers were from Bihar and West Bengal and were engaged in the construction of a multi-storied building.
The workers had dug the ground to a depth of about 40 feet for the foundation, when a big heap of mud fell on them, killing two people and injuring three others. One of the injured people is said to be in critical condition.
A committee led by the Deputy Commissioner is now investigating the lapses behind the accident.
