As per PTI reports, 12 students had gone for a picnic to Malanggad fort in Ambernath area on Monday. Two of the students went for a swim in the nearby Ambe river but one of them started drowning. Following this, two others from the group jumped into the river to rescue the students drowning. However, they couldn't be saved.
The deceased have been identified as Nikhil Kanojia and Ankit Jaiswal, both aged 17, students of a college in Dombivli town.
In another incident, a 17-year-old fell into a creek from a bridge on Monday night, said Avinash Sawant, Thane Municipal Corporation's regional disaster management cell (RDMC) Chief. The victim was rescued with the help of a boat.
