Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover has set the alarm bells ringing for employees. Musk is believed to cut jobs to make more revenue with Twitter. The employees have now bombarded Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal with questions about their future. During a company meeting, the employees asked Agrawal how the managers plan to handle anticipated layoffs by Elon Musk. The Tesla CEO had reportedly told the banks that he could crack down on executive and board pay to cut costs and find new ways to monetise tweets to help fund his $44 billion acquisition.
As per the Guardian, the Twitter employees during the town hall meeting asked Agrawal about the company’s plans to handle layoffs. “I’m tired of hearing about shareholder value and fiduciary duty. What are your honest thoughts about the very high likelihood that many employees will not have jobs after the deal closes?” A Twitter employee asked Agrawal during the meeting.
Agrawal replied to him saying that the company has always cared about its employees and would continue to do so. “I believe the future Twitter organization will continue to care about its impact on the world and its customers,” he said. The sources close to the company said that Musk would not make decisions on job cuts until he assumes ownership of Twitter.
Musk has previously criticised Twitter’s legal head Vijaya Gadde on the micro-blogging platform. He took potshots at Gadde after the reports of her breaking down in a meeting after Musk took over. She had expressed concerns about the future of the company with Musk being the new boss.
The screenshot of the report by Politico that stated that Gadde broke down into tears when she learnt of Musk taking over Twitter was shared by Saagar Enjeti, a conservative commentator. He tweeted, “Vijaya Gadde, the top censorship advocate at Twitter who famously gaslit the world on Joe Rogan's podcast and censored the Hunter Biden laptop story, is very upset about the @elonmusk takeover.
To which, Musk replied, “Suspending the Twitter account of a major news organization for publishing a truthful story was obviously incredibly inappropriate.” He was referring to a story by NYPost about Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden, that was restricted by Twitter as well as Facebook. The story was written off by several credible publications in the United States as a part of a smear campaign to make Biden look bad before the US presidential election.
