The controversy over naming a stretch of the KRS Road after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in recognition of his contribution to development of healthcare institutes on the stretch, refuses to die down.
The Congress leaders recently met the Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner and submitted a memorandum in support of their demand and refuted claims that the stretch was already named as Princess Road. As a rejoinder to that Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has posted a few documents on his social media site that includes old maps which mention the stretch as Princess Road.
Mr. Yaduveer took to X and citing the Mysuru City Corporation commissioner’s statement that there are no references to an official name for KRS Road, posted that the following documents provide significant evidence worth reviewing.
A distant relative of Sri Mirza Ismail, Diwan of Mysore, resided on what was known as Princess Road. Letters sent from this address clearly reference the name “Princess Road’’, said Mr. Yadueer. He also uploaded an old official Mysore Tour Map/Guide published by the Government of India’s Survey and Mapping Department and said it explicitly marks and names the road as “Princess Road’’.
Mr. Yaduveer went on to write that instead of creating unnecessary confusion by proposing a renaming, it is vital to acknowledge the road’s historical and cultural significance. ‘’Recognising its origins and honoring the contributions of the royal family to society is essential. Ensuring their legacy is preserved and introducing this heritage to future generations is a shared responsibility of the corporation and the government,” said Mr. Yaduveer.
Meanwhile, A.H. Vishwanath, MLC, came out against the naming of road after Siddaramaiah and told media persons here on Thursday that there was enough documentary evidence to prove that the stretch was indeed named Princess Road.
He furnished a document from the official website of the Mysuru district administration which mentioned the address of the railway museum as being located on the Princess Road.
