Former U.S. president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Jimmy Carter died Sunday at the age of 100. Upon news of his death, political figures and heads of state from around the world gave praise to Carter, celebrating his faith and time both in office and afterwards.
"Jimmy Carter’s legacy is one of compassion, kindness, empathy, and hard work," Trudeau wrote. "He served others both at home and around the world his entire life — and he loved doing it. He was always thoughtful and generous with his advice to me."
"Today, America and the world lost an extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian,” the president and first lady wrote in a statement. “Over six decades, we had the honor of calling Jimmy Carter a dear friend. But, what’s extraordinary about Jimmy Carter, though, is that millions of people throughout America and the world who never met him thought of him as a dear friend as well."
"While I strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our Country, and all it stands for," Trump wrote. "He worked hard to make America a better place, and for that I give him my highest respect. He was a truly good man and, of course, will be greatly missed. He was also very consequential, far more than most Presidents, after he left the Oval Office."
“I was very sorry to hear of President Carter's passing and I would like to pay tribute to his decades of selfless public service,” Starmer wrote. “His presidency will be remembered for the historic Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt, and it was that lifelong dedication to peace that saw him receive the Nobel Peace prize.”
"Throughout his life, Jimmy Carter has been a steadfast advocate for the rights of the most vulnerable and has tirelessly fought for peace," Macron wrote. "France sends its heartfelt thoughts to his family and to the American people."
