A middle-aged woman suspected of having an extramarital affair was allegedly beaten up and forced to marry her "lover" in Tripura's Khowai district.
A middle-aged woman suspected of having an extramarital relationship has been allegedly beaten up and forced to marry her "lover" in Tripura's Khowai district, police said on Monday.
The alleged incident took place at Madhya Krishnapur in Teliamura police station area on Saturday night, following which the woman has been hospitalised, an officer said.
“Based on a complaint by the woman, the police have registered an FIR against 10 villagers ”, a senior police officer said.
The woman said in the complaint that her husband had fled the scene when a group of about 10 to 15 villagers started beating her mercilessly and compelled her to marry the man.

Officer in Charge (OC), Teliamura Police Station, Subimal Barman, said the Investigating Officer has visited the hospital and recorded the woman’s statement.
“An investigation is on to find out the truth”, he said.
