Sircar had recently made some controversial remarks over the series of corruption charges facing his party. This, according to the sources, made the party uncomfortable.
Trinamool Congress MP Jawhar Sircar found himself removed from a WhatsApp group for the party’s Rajya Sabha MPs. Sources inside the TMC said that Sircar was removed from the group last night.
Sircar had recently made some controversial remarks over the series of corruption charges facing his party. This, according to the sources, made the party uncomfortable.
The Trinamool leader, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Bengal in 2021, had said that his friends and family have been urging him to quit politics ever since his party colleagues - Partha Chatterjee and Anubrata Mondal - were arrested by the central investigating agencies in connection with the teacher recruitment scam and the cattle smuggling scam, respectively.
His remarks embarrassed the Trinamool Congress, with several top leaders demanding Sircar’s ouster from the party. The party asked another senior leader and MP, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, to speak with Sircar.
Sources inside the TMC said that the Rajya Sabha MP was advised by the party leadership to take the path of 'honorable separation' immediately. The party was swift to distance itself from his comments.
When asked about his removal from the group, Sirkar refused to say anything.
Meanwhile, as news of the MP’s ouster from the group spread, a new WhatsApp group of Rajya Sabha members has been formed.
