The Trans-Canada Highway is closed in all directions in Albany, P.E.I. after a single-vehicle collision early Friday.
P.E.I. RCMP say the crash happened at about 5:30 a.m., and are asking drivers to avoid the Albany area, which is near Borden-Carleton.
Police, Island EMS, and other emergency service providers are at the scene of the crash, said Scott Ferris, senior communications advisor with the P.E.I. RCMP.
"We realize this is one of the main intersections for people to move towards the Confederation Bridge, or coming from the Confederation Bridge," Ferris said.
The y-shaped corner where Route 1 and Route 1A meet in Albany is known as the Albany Y.
Ferris said the RCMP have set up detours, and expects the road to be closed for several hours as officers work on accident reconstruction.
There were four people in the vehicle, Ferris said.
