A road accident in Kanpur claimed at least 26 lives, including women and children. The survivors of the accident alleged that the driver of the tractor-trolley was driving under the influence of alcohol.
As many as 27 people were killed after a tractor-trolley overturned and fell into a pond in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district. The road accident left several others critically injured. Speaking to India Today, the survivors of the accident alleged that the driver was intoxicated and was speeding.
Narrating their ordeal, the survivors claimed that the help came half an hour after the accident took place. They recalled how some of the passengers were rescued by the locals.
They also said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the hospital where the injured are being treated and spoke to them.
“We got to know the well-being of the injured and all are out of danger,” CM Yogi said on Sunday.
Calling the incident “unfortunate”, CM Yogi said that the central and state governments are with the bereaved family.
He added that the officials of the Transport Department have been given strict instructions that tractor-trolley will not be used for passengers. He said that an awareness program will be carried out on the issue as well.
At least 27 people, including 11 children and 11 women, died as a tractor-trolley overturned on the road in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur on Saturday. At least 30 others were injured who are being treated at a hospital.
