Toronto remained under a special weather statement on Wednesday night as the city was hit by high winds and heavy rain.
About 2,300 customers were without power in the west end at about 9:45 p.m. Earlier at about 9 p.m., about 2,800 customers were without power. According to Toronto Hydro's outage map, power was restored to the area by 10:45 p.m.
The outage affected customers from Bloor Street West south to Lake Ontario, and Parkside Drive east to Dufferin Street.
Maja Boric, spokesperson for Toronto Hydro, said the outage was due to high winds that brought down power lines.
In a tweet, Toronto Hydro said utility crews had to deal with safety issues as they worked to restore power.
Environment Canada said significant rainfall and high winds are possible for Toronto and total rainfall amounts could be up to 20 millimetres before the rain tapers off on early Thursday.
There could be water pooling on roads in local areas.
The federal weather agency said strong easterly winds, with gusts up to 70 kilometres per hour, could lead to loose objects being tossed about. It said small tree branches could break.
