Tom Cruise’s actioner, Top Gun: Maverick, will hit the cinemas on May 27. The superstar also has Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 lined up.
Three years of delay, but nearly 36 years after his first film, Top Gun is back and so is its leading man, Tom Cruise, who is no stranger to stunts. Yes, one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood made a fancy entry via a chopper at the Naval Air Station in San Diego for the world premiere of his much-anticipated film, Top Gun: Marverick.
He not only has this, but two more reasons to celebrate - first of which, of course, was that he finally agreed to return to the role of hot-shot pilot Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell that made Cruise an international superstar more than three decades ago, and secondly, the sequel overcame both production as well as Covid-19 delays to make its way to theatres. Top Gun: Maverick was originally scheduled to release in July 2019 but now the makers are all set to roll out this high-octane sequel in cinemas on May 27. The film follows the story of Maverick, who is forced into teaching a new generation of fighter pilots, including Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw, the son of his best friend and pilot Goose, who died in the original film.
The iconic Top Gun was released in 1986. Tom Cruise has only been busy working on Mission Impossible movies, the franchise that began 10 years after Top Gun turned out to be the biggest blockbuster.
Tom Cruise, who plays the role of IMF agent Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible has put his life on the line too many times. From climbing a cliff as well as the tallest building in the world with no safety gear to jumping off an airplane during takeoff, Tom Cruise has and still always does stunts on his own for his movies. And now, the superstar will be continuing the trend as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission Impossible 8.
Both the latest instalments of Mission Impossible official titles were announced by Paramount at CinemaCon panel.
