TNSTC workers, pensioners demand old pension scheme

Over 300 TNSTC workers arrested during protest for pension scheme, wage settlement, and health insurance demands by CITU.
Over 300 TNSTC workers and retired employees affiliated to Centre of Indian Trade Union were arrested when they staged a dharna pressing for a charter of demand,s including implementation of old pension scheme.
The protest was headed by the general secretary of CITU-TNSTC, M. Vellaidurai in the presence of Bose, of TNSTC Retired Employees Welfare Association.
The protest was inaugurated by Virudhunagar district CITU leader P.N. Deva near the Old Bus Stand.
Mr. Vellaidurai said that the wage settlement had expired over a year, but still the State Government was not ready to begin the wage settlement negotiations.
Pensionary benefits had not been disbursed to the pensioners for the last 21 months and the dearness allowance to them had not been revised for the last 8 years.
The retired TNSTC employees were also not covered under the health insurance scheme.
Mr. Velladurai said that over 30,000 vacancies in TNSTC had not been filled and the DMK Government had not fulfilled it promise of reviving the old pension scheme.
