TMC postpones Abhishek Banerjee's event in Agartala after Tripura HC denies permission

The visit of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee to Agartala on Wednesday stands postponed after the Tripura High Court rejected the party's plea to hold an event in the state.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has postponed a party event in Tripura on Wednesday which was to be attended by Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee and other senior party leaders. This comes after the Tripura High Court on Tuesday rejected the TMC's plea to hold an event in the state. In line with the HC's decision not to interfere in policy decisions, we are postponing our scheduled events in Tripura.We will seek further clarity from the court on the limits to such arbitrary use of executive power. In a series of tweets, the TMC accused the BJP-led government in Tripura of repeatedly denying permission to hold events in the state. "This time they did not even respond to our applications and we had to approach the HC to know that Section 144 was being imposed in the state," a tweet on the TMC's Twitter handle read.
