TMC leader Madan Mitra breaks silence over controversial statement day after warning BJP
India Today
While addressing a public meeting in his Kamarhati constituency on Sunday, Mitra had said that it won't take more than ten minutes to thrash and teach a lesson to those involved in hooliganism and vandalism.
TMC leader Madan Mitra, who has drawn ire for his “dangerous” remarks on setting records straight with the BJP whom he blamed for the violence the Nabanna Abhiyan, came out on the defensive, stating that his statements were blown out of proportion.
While addressing a public meeting in his Kamarhati constituency on Sunday, Mitra had said, "If there is an instruction from the party's higher-ups, it won't take more than ten minutes to thrash and teach a lesson to those who were involved in hooliganism and vandalism, attacked government properties, threatened TMC and the administration.”

Mitra was quoted as saying that the TMC could retaliate with double the force as the attackers. “We can send two boys on a bike who will hurl four crude bombs, which will make all these people who indulge in tall talks scamper away," the BJP MP had said during the public address.
His statements created quite a flutter in the Opposition, especially the BJP.
Senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha had responded to Mitra’s comment and said, “TMC leaders are increasingly making such dangerous comments as they are losing the support of the common people. We will see more such comments by these leaders to scare the Opposition. But the days of TMC are numbered.”
Mitra said that his statements were taken out of context. “I said the BJP spread hooliganism for two days. There is no heroism in throwing stones at the police... There is no credit in such action. TMC has emphasised it wants development, not violence,” said the TMC leader.
