TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee failed to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the coal smuggling case. Banerjee and his wife Rujira have moved SC against the ED summons.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee skipped the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons on Tuesday in the coal smuggling case. The general secretary of TMC was summoned by the ED to appear before the agency for questioning on March 29.
Sources said the ED officials issued a fresh summons on Tuesday morning asking him to join the investigation today. His wife, Rujira Banerjee, has also been summoned to Delhi for questioning tomorrow.
Abhishek Banerjee was last questioned by the financial probe agency in Delhi on March 20 for nearly eight hours.
After his eight-hour questioning, Mamata Banerjee’s nephew accused the Centre and the BJP of misusing investigative agencies to target the opposition.

“We won’t bow before the people in power. I will only bow before the people of this country,” Abhishek Banerjee had told reporters outside the ED’s office on Monday.
Interestingly, Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to the Chief Ministers of all non-BJP ruled states asking them to unite against the Centre for 'misusing' the central investigative agencies.
