The Forest Department, on behalf of the State government, handed over compensation to those who were attacked by a leopard in January in Tiruppur.
According to the officials, Assistant Conservator of Forest from Anamalai Tiger Reserve, K. Ganeshram handed over a cheque for ₹ 59,100 to K. Rajendran (66) in Tiruppur on Friday.
On January 27, a leopard entered the city and hid inside the godown of a private garment company in Ammapalayam. It attacked Mr. Rajendran, who was working as a security guard there. He suffered injuries on his head and hip.
Among the seven victims (three residents and four anti-poaching watchers), Mr. Rajendran suffered maximum injuries, but had recovered fully after treatment, the officials said.
Compensation was also provided to Varadharaj (60) and Maran (65), residents of Pappankulam village in Avinashi taluk, who were attacked by the leopard on January 24. They were provided ₹ 10,000 each recently, officials said.
The four anti-poaching watchers, who were injured during the operation to capture the leopard, were also provided cheques for ₹ 10,000 each. ATR Field Director S. Ramasubramanian had felicitated all the Forest Department personnel who were part of the operation with certificates, the officials noted.
