A line of severe thunderstorms is expected to hit Wellington County and Waterloo region this afternoon and into the evening.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Guelph, Erin, Kitchener and Cambridge as well as areas in Northern Wellington County.
"Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain," a release from Environment Canada said.
The thunderstorms could bring wind gusts up to 110 km/h, as well as large, ping pong sized hail, heavy downpours and a possible tornado.
"Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!" Environment Canada warned.
Residents are being told to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
