With harvesting of paddy on around 3,000 hectares under way in and around Rajapalayam, the Department of Agriculture has opened three direct purchase centres (DPCs) in the block. “With good rainfall reported in the last three months, the farmers had gone for paddy cultivation in an additional 1,000 ha,” said Agricultural Officer G. Dhanalakshmi. Harvesting has been going on for the last 10 days and the DPCs have come up in Rajapalayam, Seithur and Devadanam.

For this, AIISH has collaborated with several hospitals to conduct screening which is performed to detect hearing impairment and other developmental disabilities that can affect speech and language development. The screening has been helping in early intervention for those identified with the disorders, as any delay in the identification poses risk and affects successful management of children with hearing loss, according to AIISH.
