Three arrested and 8.5 grams of cocaine seized from their possession in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur. It is a significant development in the fight against narcotics in Andhra Pradesh, says Deputy Commissioner, Prohibition and Excise, K. Srinivas.
In a major haul, the Excise Department in the city seized 8.5 grams of cocaine and apprehended three persons on the charge of peddling drugs on January 19, 2025 (Sunday).
Officers of the department detained the suspects in a raid conducted in Syamala Nagar.
“This is the first-ever registered cocaine case in Guntur district,” said K. Srinivas, Deputy Commissioner, Prohibition and Excise, Guntur, at a press conference.
“It is a significant development in the fight against narcotics in the State,” he said, and urged people to dial the toll-free number, ‘14500’, and pass on any information related to peddling of drugs for further action.
Quoting the accused, Mr. Srinivas said cocaine was being sold in Guntur city for a price ranging between ₹3,000 and ₹6,000 per gram, while its price hovered over ₹20,000 per gram in Hyderabad.
The accused were identified as Sk. Dadavali and Sk. Khasim Peera (both brothers), and Sk. Sameer Baji, all residents of Nallacheruvu in the city. They were allegedly peddling drugs in the city after procuring them from unidentified sources. Seven packets of cocaine were seized during the operation, Mr. Srinivas said.
Inspector of Prohibition and Excise, Guntur-2, M. Yasodhara Devi, who led the raid, said the accused were now under judicial remand. She emphasised the department’s commitment to curbing the drug menace in the city and the growing threat of narcotics in the urban areas.
