New Delhi: The government of India has announced Indian Sign Language (ISL) will be taught as a subject in schools! Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that ISL will now be introduced in the education system in the country as a subject in schools in India which means that students can now opt to study this. He said it will promote ISL and will help over 3 lakh differently-abled people in the country, who are currently dependant on sign language for learning. This move has been received with an overwhelming response across the country. Expressing his thoughts on the move, actor Ranveer Singh said, "For the first time, Indian Sign Language (ISL) has been given the status of a language and I’m proud that my country has taken such a progressive step towards fostering inclusivity. This is going to tremendously benefit scores of people and mark a monumental shift regarding their rights.
