A journalist from New Zealand etched her name on the pages of history after she became the first woman with a Mori tattoo to appear on a primetime news bulletin. Oriini Kaipara, the 37-year-old newsreader, read the Newshub Live's 6pm news bulletin on December 25. Kaipara had previously made headlines for appearing on TV with a traditional lower chin tattoo that is frequently seen among Maori women known as moko kauae.
Kaipara took to Instagram to share the news of her incredible achievement. “On Christmas Day I’ll be reading the 6pm news for Newshub. It will be the first of many nights I will have the honour of presenting our prime news to audiences around the country and globe. I’m rostered on that whole week and will be around with our NH whnau all summer. I’m excited,” she wrote.
