Hollywood actor and filmmaker James Morosini revealed in an interview that he once struck up a relationship with a woman online only to realise later that it was his own father. Yes, you heard that right. James was catfished by his own father on Facebook who had posed as a “pretty girl”. The reason, you ask? He had got into a massive fight with his father and cut off all ties. Therefore, his father had to pose as a girl named Becca to check up on him. The story actually served as inspiration for James Morosini's film I Love My Dad, which debuted at SXSW Film Festival.
The actor spoke to Deadline and revealed that he was only 20 when the incident took place. "A version of I Love My Dad actually happened to me," James Morosini said. "My dad and I got into a big fight and I decided to just cut him off of social media and everything else. I got home one day and this really pretty girl sent me a friend request online, I was very excited and this story was born,” he said.
James was elated to discover that they had so many things in common, hobbies and interests. However, things came to an end after he discovered that her email address was that of his father.
"I discovered that it was my dad. He had basically created this whole profile as a way of making sure that I was okay. And that served as the kernel for the story," he further told Screen Anarchy.
I Love My Dad tells the story of a father and son's strained relationship and how the former creates a fake account to rebuild their bond.
