Michael Keane is the author of the recently published book "Charlie Brown’s Christmas Miracle: The Inspiring, Untold Story of the Making of a Holiday Classic." He is a fellow of the Department of Defense’s National Security Education Program and an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University’s School of Public Policy.
Lee Mendelson suggested a Christmas tree as a plot element. Schulz embraced the idea, saying, "We need a Charlie Brown-like tree!" When the producer next suggested inserting a "laugh track" (the recorded sound of an audience laughing), Schulz was offended.
