Around 50 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs on Wednesday sought blessings of Devi Kamakhya at her temple on the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati Assam ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly floor test on Thursday. The Kamakhya temple in Assam’s Guwahati was back in the news after 50 MLAs of the rebel faction of the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde visited the Shakti Peethas on Wednesday, June 29. They sought the Mother Goddess’s blessings and prayed for the people of Maharashtra and Assam.

The MLAs walked a path cordoned off for the public amid tight security and an incessant spell of downpour that has caused devastating floods in Assam. It’s not just these MLAs who sought Maa Kamakhya’s blessing before the Maharashtra Assembly floor test on Thursday evening. BJP’s Himanta Biswa Sarma also visited the temple just before taking charge as the Assam Chief Minister. PM Narendra Modi visited the Kamakhya temple for the first time during the Assam elections in 2016.

Bollywood celebrities and other politicians also visit the temple regularly. Last year, actor Sara Ali Khan visited the temple. In 2020, Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan, Thanglen Soubam, Nikita Jaisinghani, Zena Kotwal, Amol More, and Madhuri Dixit visited the temple. Even Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the temple the same year.
