Dinesh Karthik made a stellar comeback to the Indian team on the back of a specialist finisher role at the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Indian wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik was called back into the Indian team on the back of a magnificent season with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. Karthik playing in a specialist finisher role lit up the tournament with extravagant strokeplay and clarity of thought. At the commencement of group stages, Karthik had scored 287 runs at a stellar strike rate of 191.
Karthik started the tournament strong and raked up important runs for RCB when the chips were down. His ability to hit the ball and place it in unusual corners of the ground earned him plaudits this season. Karthik made his intentions clear after playing a couple of match-winning knocks for the team and said that his dream was to make a comeback for India.
The selectors heard his call and gave him a place on South Africa’s tour of India, which is being seen as an important part of the T20 World Cup preparation.
The team has three keeper batters in the squad, with captain KL Rahul and vice-captain Rishabh Pant alongside Karthik. While the other two are assured to play, Karthik might get a chance to play in the finisher's role in the latter stages of the 5-match series.
The veteran Indian batsman took to Twitter to show his gratitude and said that the hard work will continue. He further added that he was grateful for all the support he received during the time.
