The great gender divide: Indian men grab lion's share of Covid-19 jab
India Today
More men than women have got vaccinated against Covid-19 in as many as 620 (of 729) districts across India. What is the factor behind this massive gender gap in the country's vaccination programme? Read on to know.
Sample this. Of the 2.6 lakh people in Srinagar who have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine till June 15, nearly 1.8 lakh are men. In other words, for every woman vaccinated in the district, more than two men have received the jab. Such massive gender mismatch during the ongoing vaccination drive has been reported from most districts in India. In fact, of the 729 districts whose data is available, more men have got vaccinated in as many as 620 or 85 per cent of the districts. In 16 states and Union territories, there is not a single district where women have outnumbered men. Some of the most populous states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and even Delhi, fall in this category. If you think the digital divide is the main factor, as fewer women have access to the Internet than men which prevents them from getting registered, think again.More Related News
