The early candidates for the Islanders’ GM opening after Lou Lamoriello’s firing

The early candidates for the Islanders’ GM opening after Lou Lamoriello’s firing

NY Post
Wednesday, April 23, 2025 12:09 PM GMT

A look at the early candidates for the Islanders GM vacancy:

Nearly every source The Post spoke with on Tuesday mentioned Holland in some capacity. The 69-year-old, who was GM of the Red Wings for 22 seasons before running the Oilers from 2019-24, is currently a consultant for the NHL’s hockey operations department. If managing partner John Collins, who formerly worked with the league, goes to commissioner Gary Bettman for help, Holland’s name would almost assuredly come up.

If there’s one holdup, it’s that Holland — an old-school GM whose most notable successes came prior to the institution of the salary cap — is similar in nature to Lamoriello, who the Islanders just jettisoned.

Pridham, 51, has worked for the Maple Leafs since 2014 and been an assistant general manager there since 2018. He’s said to have the managerial ability to run a hockey operations department and can navigate the salary cap well. His name has been brought up for open GM positions in the past, and he’s seen as a future GM around the league.
