George Barris received a patent for the Batmobile on Oct. 18, 1966. The car was later the sub.
The iconic car was used throughout the Batman TV show's original three-season run and made an appearance years later in a 1989 film. Gary Gastelu is Fox News Digital's automotive editor.
Barris designed the first one around a Lincoln Futura show car and built three more with fiberglass bodies for the production.
