The second day's play saw the hosts riding on some brilliant batting displays from Usman Khawaja (137) and Steve Smith (67) who stitched a crucial 115-run partnership for the fourth wicket. But their resistance was eventually brought to an end by the returning Stuart Broad who sent Smith packing after Lunch.
