Thane Mayor Naresh Mhaske has claimed that he had received a call from a Union Minister asking him to save unauthorised constructions from the ongoing drive by the municipal corporation.
This revelation by Mr. Mhaske at the general body meeting of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) caused a flutter on Monday.
Refusing to reveal the name of the Union Minister, Mr. Mhaske said the drive against illegal hawkers and unauthorised constructions will continue.

Former CM B.S. Yediyurappa had challenged the first information report registered on March 14, 2024, on the alleged incident that occurred on February 2, 2024, the chargesheet filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and the February 28, 2025, order of taking cognisance of offences afresh by the trial court.
