Thandiwe Netwon tearfully apologizes to 'darker-skinned actresses'
Fox News
"Reminiscence" star Thandiwe Newton broke into tears discussing colorism in the film industry and said she wants to apologize to "darker-skinned actresses" for being "chosen" over them.
Newton has received a fair amount of praise for her role, which examines, among other things, her race. Newton said it's "very painful" for Black women to feel like she doesn't represent them. "I now realize that my internalized prejudice was stopping me from feeling like I could play this role, when it's precisely that prejudice that I've received," she told the outlet. "Doesn't matter that it's from African American women more than anyone else – it doesn't matter. I received prejudice."
