TGSPDCL calling for EoI to replace overhead power lines with underground cables in Hyderabad for improved reliability and safety.
HYDERABAD
As part of the State government plans to develop underground (UG) power cable network in Hyderabad, the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) has decided to call for expression of interest (EoI) for replacing the existing overhead power lines with underground cables across Greater Hyderabad.
According to Chairman and Managing Director of the Southern Discom Md. Musharraf Ali Faruqui, they have initiated the process for identifying the capable and interested companies for executing the work for improving the reliability of the transmission and distribution network. The exercise is also aimed at improving public safety and efficiency in power supply operations. Further, it will also improve the aesthetic view of the City.
The Discom is inviting expression of interest from the companies who have carried out the underground power cabling works in other large cities or in other countries. The notification for expression of interest would be issued on January 20 and the last date for submission of EoI would be February 1. The interested parties would be given an opportunity to make a presentation on February 7.
The CMD stated that they were planning to implement the underground power cabling project under the hybrid annuity model (HAM) or any other feasible funding model. The tentative scope of the work would include survey and feasibility study, design and engineering, procurement and installation, integration with existing infrastructure, testing and commissioning and operation and maintenance.
Only the companies who have implemented such underground cabling works for power utilities in the country or abroad could express interest in the work. They could also form joint ventures with appropriate technology partners who have implemented such underground cabling works for power utilities in the country or abroad. According to the CMD, the existing transmission and distribution network in GHMC (Greater Hyderabad) includes 498 - 33/11 kV substations, 1,280 km of underground cable, 3,725 km of overhead line, 1,022 power transformers in substations, 957 km of 11 kV underground cable, 21,643 km of 11 kV overhead T&D cable, 1,50,992 distribution transformers and 58,271 intermediate poles.
