Former South Africa wicket-keeper Mark Boucher reckoned that Test cricket can’t be ignored amidst the rise of T20 and other shorter formats of the game. The Proteas recently played a three-match Test series against England that they lost 1-2 after losing the third Test at KIA Oval by nine wickets.
"To lose sight of Test cricket and lose games is not great. I’m a purist. I love test cricket to bits. It’s the purest form of the game and one that we really need to look after,” Boucher was quoted as saying to reporters.
Boucher reckoned that the who’s and who of world cricket needs to find a way to prioritise Test cricket and not let the format fade away.
"The heads in the game need to get together and find a way to play more test cricket. It’s exciting, especially with the way the games are being played now. It’s very seldom that you have draws,” Boucher was quoted as saying.
"The game’s moved forward, maybe because of T20 cricket. Guys are playing shots they would never usually play. It’s attacking and it’s a nice game to watch. So the more we see it, the better it will be for everyone," he stated.
Recently, England have gained a lot of attention due to ‘Bazball’, a terminology that has come to the fore following their dominant run in Test cricket. Having played an attacking brand of cricket, the Three Lions have won six of their last seven Tests.
