Following the brutal murder of a tailor by two men in Udaipur, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday condemned the incident and went on to add that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should address the nation 'as there is a tense atmosphere in the whole country'.
Taking to Twitter, Gehlot said, "The incident in Udaipur is very sad and any amount of condemnation is less, it is a matter of great concern. It is very sad and shameful to murder someone like this. I understand that there is also a need to improve the atmosphere. There is an atmosphere of tension in the whole country."
"I have repeatedly urged Modi ji, Amit Shah ji that why don't you address the whole country. Due to some reasons, people in the streets are not able to understand this. In areas where someone's population is less, no matter who they are, they are more worried, there is so much tension amongst themselves," he wrote in a subsequent tweet.
"If we speak something (make an appeal), it makes a difference, if the PM speaks then it makes much more difference. I believe that the PM should address the whole country, appeal that we will not tolerate violence at any cost and ask everyone to live with love and brotherhood, what is the harm in saying this," Gehlot wrote.
Hours after the incident, CM Gehlot condemned the "heinous murder" and appealed people to maintain peace.
