Tens of thousands of Hydro-Québec clients without power during deep freeze

More than 50,000 Hydro-Québec clients are without electricity in Montreal, primarily in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Montréal-Nord and Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension.
The outage began at around 6:25 a.m. on one of the coldest days of the winter.
Spokesperson Lynn St-Laurent says the outage was caused by equipment failure at one of its substations.
"Obviously we want to get the power back as quickly as possible. We know that it's very cold and that's where our focus is right now," St-Laurent told CBC News.
St-Laurent says Hydro crews are trying to re-route power to customers from other parts of the grid.
She says electricity should be restored soon.
More to come.
Two anonymous letters first tipped the Manitoba government off to possible collusion by contractors vying for dozens of public housing projects more than a decade ago, according to search warrant documents — but charges against the people accused could now be stayed because the process has taken so long.
